Do you believe in Superheroes? Maybe you grew up collecting Batman comics and Marvel trading cards, but I'm not talking about fictional superheroes. I'm talking about people who are extra-extra-ordinary in ways that have transformed your life. Growing up, I always saw my dad as a "Super Dad" and I've always looked up to him. I definitely still do until now. I didn't know it then but in hindsight after my parents divorced my dad was broken and devastated. But through the years, he has transformed his and our life as a family to something we could never have imagined. We were at the lowest of low where we absolutely had nothing but he worked hard to build a business from the ground up to the point where years later he was able to cover my UNR tuition fees throughout my college career. Mind you, he was helping me from the Philippines while I was going to school here. He pushed me through the difficult times of being a full-time student with a full-time job. With his support, I was able to earn my college degree with no debt. To this day, even though my sisters and I have our own families and our own children to raise he has never abandoned any of us when we are in need. He comes over from the Philippines every couple years or so to spend time with his grandkids and he is always just a phone call away for positive encouragement when life pulls us down. He is always there in good times and in bad. I cannot tell you how blessed my sisters and I are to have our dad as the head of our family. God has impersonated himself through him because his love for our family is unwavering. He has embraced the men that have come into our lives and treats them as if they've always been part of the family. This is especially important to me and also to my husband Jeff. Jeff never had a father growing up so receiving love from my dad as his father-in-law has left him speechless; he is still working on a letter for my dad for helping us with his medical expenses with no questions asked. For that and all the things my dad has done for me and my family, I am forever grateful.
We may not know it, but there are superheroes all around us. Like Rasa and Jesse, they are a husband and wife couple who live in Reno. Rasa is a stay-at-home mom raising her sweet daughter Abigaile who has been through so much in her little life. Rasa is a huge advocate of Cerebral Palsy and she wants to make people aware of the disorder and the potential struggles ahead. She fights with and for her daughter EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Their toddler son Brady loves his sister and they are so sweet together. Rasa is doing a wonderful job with her children and is raising them in the best way she knows how: love. Whenever I see her I think to myself, "How does she do it?" She is always smiling even through some of the toughest times they've had to overcome as a family. I love her positive energy and bright outlook in life! She is all about family, love, and togetherness... just truly an inspiration!
Jesse is the same way. As a firefighter, he is gone for days at a time (maybe even weeks during fire season) but when he is home they make the best out of their time together. He takes his family out to enjoy local events especially when they are family friendly. Just this month, they've enjoyed a scenic train ride at the Virginia & Truckee railroad in Carson City, they've been out feeling the beautiful Fall weather at the Andelin Farm and also at Apple Hill, and they also had a great time at the airshow held at the Minden-Tahoe Airport. Jesse and Rasa are happy to be around all their children and as a blended family they make the best out of it.
Rasa and Jesse, getting to know your beautiful family has been amazing. I'm so happy to have met you guys! You are both extra-extra-ordinary people and a blessing to everyone. You love selflessly and your positive energy is highly contagious. The way you step up to help your own as well as others is a huge testament to the wonderful people that you both are. Keep on keeping on through this journey we call life... you guys are rocking it!
I hope you enjoy this sneak peek from your session. I had a great time making fun memories with your family!
PS. Please tell Brady that his friend Ella says thank you for sharing his snacks during the session. "Cheddar Bunnies!"
